Principal Environmental Scientist


Nicholas Skelton

Nicholas Skelton, leading environmental scientist in ecological management firm GISNick has 19 years experience as an environmental scientist and ecologist, having worked both as a consultant and as an employee of several government environmental agencies, including the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, State Forests of NSW, and the Royal Botanic Gardens. His formal qualifications include a Bachelor of Science (Honours) majoring in Biology from The University of Sydney and a Master of Applied Science (Vegetation Management and GIS) from The University of New South Wales.

Nick is a veteran of more than 500 flora and fauna surveys and environmental assessment projects. He has also been an author on 12 published scientific papers and has been a lecturer at The University of New South Wales and the University of Western Sydney.

Nick has a great deal of experience in project management, having managed projects with up to 20 ecologists. Nicholas's own areas of expertise include: project management, threatened species field survey and modeling, flora and fauna survey, field survey design, management planning, GIS data capture and analysis and digital mapping. He also has considerable experience in the preparation and presentation of evidence for the Land and Environment court as an expert witness.

 

Field Ecologists/Project Officers


Ariane Weiss

ariane Weiss, a specialist project manager for ecological management and environment consultancy jobs for GISAriane Weiss has a Bachelor of Computer Science from the University of Technology of Zurich, Switzerland. She completed TAFE Certificate III in Natural Area Restoration and the Conservation and Land Management Diploma with distinction. During her 3 year studies she worked as a Bush Regenerator in the Lower North Shore. She has extensive project management and computer skills, including GIS. Ariane has participated in many field surveys and research trips. Her work at GIS Environmental Consultants includes field surveys, report writing, mapping and project management.





Caroline Metzler

Caroline Metzler, experienced field ecologist for GISCaroline has a Bachelor of Science and Communication with honours from the University of New South Wales and majoring in Biological Science. Her honours project looked at the effects of female preference on male signaling using experimentation and statistical analysis. She previously worked with AustralAsian Resource Consultants (AARC) in Brisbane, for 15 months as an environmental scientist, specialising in mining and non-mining development and approval projects. Caroline has been with GIS Environmental Consultants since September 2006, managing projects, conducting field surveys and report writing. Caroline specialises in report writing, editing, fieldwork, meetings and customer relations.

 



Kim Caswell

Kim Caswell, specialist field ecologist in working with GIS dataKim joined the team at GIS Environmental Consultants in January 2006. She has completed a Bachelor of Environmental Science degree from the Australian Catholic University, North Sydney. Since the completion of her degree, Kim has worked in the Natural Resources section of a local Council collecting, editing and analysing GIS data. During her time at GIS Environmental Consultants, she has specialised in Bandicoot and Penguin assessments, has been involved in many field trips and Endangered Ecological Community top soil translocation; she has a sound scientific environmental skill base and is competent in all areas of reporting.






Marc Stettner

Marc Stettner, expert field ecologist in bush regeneration and ecological managementMarc is a project officer with GIS Environmental Consultants. He holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science from Griffith University and a Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management (Bush Regeneration). He has been working in Bush Regeneration and Native Vegetation Management in Sydney since 2002. Marc is committed to the conservation and restoration of native bushland, and has an impressive range of skills to support this passion. Marc manages the Bush Regeneration side of the work and contributes to the vegetation management planning.

Ally Thorne

Ally Thorne, business manage specialising in environmental consultancy and ecological managementAlly has a Bachelor of Economics and masters in Information systems and Business Management. Ally is responsible for the IT infrastructure, purchasing and office administration, she has been with us since 1999.

Angela Glover, managing the books and accounts for GISAngela is responsible for book keeping and accounts.
